Growing up, pizza night was a highlight in our family. I’ve kept this tradition going with my own children, who love pizza just as much. Instead of opting for costly takeout or frozen supermarket pizzas, I prefer making it from scratch. Over the years, I’ve experimented with several recipes, and my most recent favorite is this chicken crust pizza. It’s a low-carb crust that puts a unique spin on my meatza recipe!
Chicken Crust Pizza
While my children and I enjoy pizza crust made from ground beef, this delicious version features ground chicken. The crust also incorporates a generous amount of Parmesan cheese—four times more than usual. This delightful combo satisfies our cravings for classic pizza while delivering a crisp, tasty crust.
This recipe is perfect for anyone following a keto diet since it’s low in carbs and naturally gluten-free. Additionally, it’s packed with healthy fats and nutrients, making it more satiating than crusts made with refined flour.
If you prefer a slightly thicker, chewier crust, spread the chicken to about 1/2 inch thick. For a crispier texture, aim for roughly 1/4 inch thick. Fortunately, this pizza "dough" is quite forgiving and easy to handle!
Chicken Pizza Ingredients
The key ingredient here is chicken (naturally!), but ground turkey can be used as a substitute. If you have access to quality canned chicken, that works well too and might be quicker. Some chicken crust pizza recipes call for shredded chicken, which offers a different texture.
No pizza is complete without your favorite toppings! Our preference is tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and plenty of fresh vegetables. Alternatively, you could use alfredo sauce for a creamier twist. Here are some additional topping ideas:
- Sprinkle with Italian seasoning
- Drizzle with a high-quality olive oil
- Pepperoni
- Bell peppers
- Red onion
- Top with fresh basil after cooking
- Black olives
- Roasted red peppers
- Chopped sundried tomatoes
This recipe is a variation on my traditional meatza and follows the popular trend of chicken crust pizzas!
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine chicken, eggs, grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Line a baking sheet, pizza pan, or pizza stone with parchment paper.
- Spread the chicken mixture evenly on the parchment paper, about 1/4-1/2 inch thick, forming a pizza crust.
- Bake the chicken crust for about 20-25 minutes, until golden and firm.
- Remove from the oven and let cool briefly.
- Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over the crust, leaving a border.
- Add your preferred pizza toppings like mozzarella cheese, vegetables, or pepperoni.
- Return the pizza to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Carefully remove the pizza from the oven.
- Allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
