Natural Hair Growth Serum

hair growth oil

I have authored numerous articles on natural hair care over the years, including recipes for nourishing conditioners and herbal treatments to promote healthier hair. However, healthy hair truly begins with scalp care. This particular hair growth oil is designed to nourish the scalp and is ideal for anyone experiencing hair loss or breakage.

Initially, I crafted this recipe for men facing hair thinning as they get older. Yet, many women also seek hair care solutions for improved hair health. Factors like excessive styling, tight hairstyles (such as braids), the use of heat styling tools, thyroid issues, androgenetic alopecia, and pregnancy can contribute to hair loss.

Over half of all women will encounter hair loss at some stage. Even if you are not losing hair, you might want to grow it longer.

I began exploring natural methods to encourage hair regrowth after my own pregnancy. I soon realized that this hair growth oil could be just as beneficial for men aiming to prevent hair loss. Regardless of who you are, if you observe that your hair is not as full as it once was, there are natural alternatives available.

Promote Strong and Healthy Hair Growth

The basis of healthy hair, like anything else, is a nutritious diet. Nutrients such as biotin and collagen are crucial for maintaining the strength and health of any hair type. Experts advise a focus on B vitamins, vitamin C (for collagen production), Omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins D and A.

An iron deficiency can also impact hair health, as iron supports optimal blood flow to the hair follicles. While I aim to obtain most of my nutrients from whole foods, supplements can help fill nutritional gaps. Proper nutrition can aid in reducing hair breakage, receding hairlines, and split ends.

Keeping hydrated and ensuring adequate mineral intake are equally important. If you experience dry hair, frizz, or a dry scalp, increasing your water intake might help. My recipe for a hydrating mineral drink is available for reference.

Oil Treatment for Enhanced Hair Growth

For those who need additional care for their hair, a natural scalp treatment can be effective. There are several natural oils that facilitate quick and easy hair growth. Almond oil, argan oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil are popular choices. For those experiencing conditions like alopecia, vitamin E can help mitigate oxidative damage to the scalp and stimulate growth.

Though numerous options exist, this particular recipe includes:

  • Castor oil: Known for detoxification in remedies like castor oil packs. I’ve used it to thicken and lengthen both my hair and eyelashes. It not only combats hair loss but significantly accelerates hair growth. My hair grew 1.5 inches in a month with bi-weekly use.

  • Black Seed Oil: Offers numerous benefits, particularly for hair growth. It can address fungal infections linked to hair loss and prevent hair thinning. Use it internally or topically, but test a small amount on the inner arm before applying it more broadly, as some may find it irritating.

  • Rosemary Oil: Renowned for promoting hair growth, it is frequently included in hair growth treatments and shampoos. A small amount not only provides a pleasant scent but also enhances the recipe’s effectiveness by reducing inflammation and dandruff.

  • Lavender Essential Oil: Excellent for both skin health and encouraging hair growth. It helps to balance the aroma of black cumin seed and rosemary, creating a refreshing scent.

Tea tree and peppermint oils are also beneficial, although I did not include them in this recipe. You may add a few drops of tea tree oil if you wish to target dandruff, an oily scalp, or fungal issues. Peppermint oil is helpful for enhancing scalp stimulation and boosting blood flow, promoting hair growth.

Optional Olive and Cayenne Oil

Cayenne is known to improve blood circulation and is a traditional remedy for hair loss and muscle pain. To include it in your hair growth oil, it can be infused easily. Here’s how:

  1. Combine the ingredients and let them infuse over a double boiler for about an hour.
  2. Alternatively, try a solar infusion by placing the cayenne and oil in a glass jar and leaving it in the sun for several days.
  3. Strain the cayenne and keep the oil for use in your hair growth oil recipe.

Natural Hair Growth Oil Recipe

This blend of oils supports hair growth, featuring castor oil, black cumin seed, rosemary, and lavender.

Yield: 3 ounces

Author: Katie Wells

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a dark glass bottle. You may use a brown dropper bottle or recycle the black cumin seed bottle, which has special miron glass to prevent the oils from becoming rancid over time.
  2. Dampen hair and massage 10-30 drops (or ½ to 1 teaspoon) into the scalp.
  3. Leave on for one hour or overnight, then wash out. For best results, apply at night and place a towel on the pillow to prevent oil stains.
  4. Use once a week or as necessary to promote hair growth.

Note: Test the oils on a small section of the inner arm before using them on the entire scalp. Do not use if there is any skin reaction or sensitivity. A small group of individuals with sensitive skin may find black cumin seed oil irritating.
