My friend Lauryn Bosstick, host of The Skinny Confidential, is guest posting today! She’s a skincare routine expert and loves ice facials, which is the focus of her post today. She’s sharing her tips for achieving radiant skin!
It’s a real honor to be guest posting on Wellness Mama today. I’ve been a fan of everything from the blog and Wellnesse product line to Katie herself for years. She appeared on the HIM & HER Show a few years back, discussing optimizing all areas of life, managing a business, parenting, and more. Katie has been an amazing resource for health and wellness topics for a long time.
My Journey
Today I’m focusing on the benefits of applying ice to your face. I’m Lauryn Bosstick, the creator, founder, author, and co-host of the podcast The Skinny Confidential.
A few years ago, we introduced a line of pink beauty tools designed to integrate seamlessly into your daily routines. Our initial product was The Skinny Confidential Ice Roller and it’s still one of our best sellers.
This journey began when I underwent double jaw surgery, which turned into a challenging and extended healing process. The recovery period took longer than expected, leaving me swollen and feeling unrecognizable, much like Sloth from The Goonies, with a slight identity crisis. I tried everything under the sun to expedite the healing process and reduce swelling.
The best solution I found was ice rolling. I kept buying inexpensive ice rollers from Amazon, but they broke easily and didn’t stay cold for long.
Ice rolling did the trick for me. Facial icing promptly reduced bloating and redness and felt incredibly soothing. With gentle massage, it also aided in lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce puffiness and redefine my jawline.
A few years later, my team and I launched our very own ice roller, which can be compared to the luxury of a Rolls Royce in ice rollers. It features a large silicone handle, an aluminum roller that retains coldness for an extended period, a thumbprint for better control, and durability to last longer than a few weeks. Plus, like all TSC skincare products, it’s stylish, pink, and perfect for displaying on your vanity.
Now, let’s dive into the benefits of using ice for your skin and cold temperatures on your face.
Ice Facial Advantages for Your Skin
Reduces Inflammation and Puffiness
Ice naturally combats inflammation, reduces swelling, and helps with various skin conditions. Apply ice to your face and bid farewell to the angry redness of pimples, rashes, blemishes, or irritations.
Minimizes the Appearance of Pores
We all crave baby-smooth skin. Ice constricts blood vessels and locks in skincare products, helping to minimize the appearance of pores, bringing you closer to a flawless complexion.
Soothes and Calms Sensitive Skin
For those with sensitive skin, ice facials are excellent for soothing and calming it, as they reduce redness, inflammation, and swelling. They also help prevent breakouts for those with eczema or rosacea, improving blood circulation and enhancing skin health.
Additionally, using ice therapy twice daily for 20 minutes over six weeks has been said to increase skin thickness by up to 32%. Rubbing ice on your face stimulates blood circulation, which supports skin health and helps reverse aging signs.
Enhances Makeup Longevity
Ice keeps the skin fresh and acts as a moisturizer, priming your skin for makeup application. This promotes better product adherence, leading to longer-lasting makeup.
Diminishes the Appearance of Undereye Bags
Applying ice to your undereye area can reduce puffiness and dark circles, minimizing the appearance of eye bags. You’ll appear well-rested, even with just five hours of sleep.
Provides an Instant Facelift
Who needs a facelift when you can use ice? Ice instantly tightens and firms the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It’s a more cost-effective option compared to dermatologist treatments like retinol and peels with potential side effects. So skip the expensive surgery and try using ice.
How to Use The Skinny Confidential Ice Roller for an Ice Facial
- Store your roller in the fridge or freezer, based on your preference.
- If you choose the freezer, test it on your wrist by rolling it about eight times before using it on your face (make sure it’s not too cold).
- Roll in an upward and outward direction on your face, then down the sides of your neck to aid lymphatic drainage.
- Repeat as often as desired.
Personally, I start ice rolling as soon as I wake up. Almost—first, I use the Wellnesse copper tongue scraper, then proceed with ice rolling. I also incorporate it into my skincare and makeup routine.
Tips for Your Ice Roller
- When traveling, keep your roller cold in a hotel ice bucket (a wine bucket at the beach works too, LOL).
- Store your roller in our Sleeping Bag to protect it from bacteria and your freezer’s other items.
- Use your roller on sore muscles after a tough workout.
- Clean your roller with a neutral cleanser and a soft, damp cloth. Lather and wipe it down, then let it air dry on your counter.
If you’re not keen on getting a roller, grab an ice cube and work it on your face. Or fill a bowl with water and ice for a refreshing ice bath for your face. It all works.
